Congratulations to our Member-at-Large Alana Chan for receiving Honorable Mention at the International Respighi Conducting Competition in June! This competition which is in affiliation with Italy, took place in New York where Alana conducted the Chamber Orchestra of New York. The jurors and mentors included three internationally renowned conductors- Dirk Brosse, the Music Director of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia; Dr. John Farrer, the President of the Conductors Guild, Music Director of Santa Maria Philharmonic, Roswell Symphony Orchestra, and Bakersfield Symphony; and Salvatore Di Vittorio, the Music Director of the Chamber Orchestra of New York. The competition included 16 semifinalists from all around the world, and four finalists were chosen where Alana was one of them who is also the first female and the first Chinese-Canadian conductor to be a finalist.
