Edward Duan, piano

Edward Duan was born in Vancouver and began playing the piano at the age of four. Recognized for his expressive and refined playing, he has won top prizes in regional and national competitions and was the recipient of the gold medal for the highest mark in British Columbia for his grades 8, 9, and ARCT piano exams.

In 2018, Edward made his orchestral debut with the VAM Symphony Orchestra at the Orpheum Theatre as winner of their concerto competition. As a finalist of the Crescendo International Music Competition, he performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City in 2022. The following year, he qualified for the national Canadian Federation of Music Teachers Association competition where he was awarded first prize and additional awards for his interpretations of Bach and Canadian works.Most recently, he was a semifinalist at the 2025 Canadian Chopin Competition which took place at the Royal Conservatory in Toronto.

Apart from solo playing, Edward also enjoys coaching as a guest artist at local music festivals and summer camps.

His teachers have included Kenneth Broadway, Ralph Markham, and David Fung. Edward currently studies at the University of British Columbia.
