The October concert features 2016 Scholarship Winner, Baritone Zachary Read, performing the Songs of Travel by Vaughan Williams, as well as selections from Mozart to Broadway Musicals.

Halifax native Zachary Read is a recent alumni of Vancouver Opera’s Yulanda M. Faris Young Artist Program, and he studied opera at the University of Toronto (MMus) and Western University (BMus). His credits include Marullo in Rigoletto, Jonas Fogg in Sweeney Todd, Le Podestat in Le Docteur Miracle, Ivan in Die Fledermaus, and Morales in Carmen (Vancouver Opera); Sid in Albert Herring and Malatesta in Don Pasquale (UofT Opera); Guglielmo in Così fan tutte (Accademia Europea dell’Opera); and Starring Cast Member/Bagpiper in Scotland Sings (Victoria Playhouse Petrolia). Mr. Read was a Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions regional finalist in both 2014 and 2015 and won the District People’s Choice Award in 2014. He was also a semi-finalist in the 2015 Lotte Lenya Competition and a finalist in the Canadian Opera Company’s Centre Stage
Competition. Upcoming performances include the baritone soloist in Handel’s Messiah with the Victoria Symphony and as a cast member of the Victoria Playhouse Petrolia’s Starbright Christmas.
