The March concert features the 2016 Bursary Winner, Oboist Kristen Cooke, performing works by Saint-Saëns, Britten, Vaughan-Williams, Marjan Mozetich and Jeffrey Ryan with Pianist Emily Yu.

Kristen Cooke is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts in oboe performance at the University of British Columbia, where she studies with Beth Orson of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. As an orchestral musician, she can be seen playing with the Vancouver Symphony, Kamloops Symphony, and Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra. She also performs frequently with her woodwind ensemble, the Fireside Quintet. This summer, she looks forward to solo recitals in London and Edinburgh as a Royal Over-Seas League BC Emerging Musician.
Originally from Ottawa, Kristen holds the degrees of Bachelor of Music from Wilfrid Laurier University and Master of Music from Boston University. Her principal instructors have been James Mason (Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony) and Mark McEwen (Boston Symphony). Additional training has included the National Academy Orchestra, Domaine Forget, Orford Academy Orchestra (South Korea tour 2016), NYO Canada (national tours, 2013 and 2014), and the National Arts Centre Young Artist Program.
