Nina Vu, piano

Born and raised in Vancouver, Nina Vu is a graduate of the University of British Columbia (BM) and the University of Toronto (MM), with degrees in piano performance. Her principal mentors include Enrico Elisi, Steven Philcox, and Miranda Wong. An alumna of UBC, Nina has achieved several honours, including the Stanley Chuck Cheun Leung Scholarship, the Kimmy Y C Tong Scholarship, and the Mildred Johnson Scholarship in Music, a distinction she has earned twice. During her tenure at the University of Toronto, Nina was granted the University of Toronto Fellowship for the academic year 2021-22. Moreover, Nina was recognized with the Dina and Hosie Austin Graduate Piano Fellowship for two consecutive years, and in 2023, she was awarded the Faculty of Music Graduate Student Research and Presentation Grant.

Nina has won a series of accolades and scholarships from numerous piano competitions. In the 2022-23 season, Nina won the 10th Pacific International Youth Festival and was awarded the Tak Chuen & Wong Chang Sung Memorial Scholarship. She also earned the PCI Developments Scholarship by winning both the 20-30 Age Category and the Gala Trophy. Her achievements also extend to first prize at the Golden Classical International Competition, and second prizes at the 7th North West International Piano Ensemble Competition in the Senior Division and the Vancouver Westcoast Music Society Bursary Competition.

Nina's musical journey has been further enriched through her participation in esteemed international music festivals. She has attended and performed at the Acaédmie Orford Musique in Quebec and the Amalfi Coast Music and Arts Festival in Italy. These experiences granted Nina the opportunity to work closely with pianists, such as Evelyne Brancart, Ian Jones, Marina Lomazov, Joseph Rackers, Yoshikazu Nagai, and Jerry Wong.

In addition to her musical endeavours, Nina enjoys hiking and embarking on new adventures with her beloved french bulldog, Tiger.
